SLD Laser has the world’s first laser light source for automotive and consumer electronics, emitting simultaneously white and infrared light

SLD Laser, which calls itself “the world leader in the commercialization of laser light sources,” announced the launch of the world’s first dual-light source – white and infrared, for use in automobiles and consumer technology. For pedants and home-grown scholars, let us make a reservation: in this news, the word “light” is used not in a narrow sense, like electromagnetic radiation visible to the human eye, but in a broad sense, including infrared and ultraviolet radiation.

The LaserLight light source can be suitable for illumination, night vision and scanning of space at long distances (over 250 m), as well as for LiFi optical communication systems, providing speeds over 20 Gbps. According to SLD Laser, dual white and infrared light sources are important for driver assistance systems (ADAS), self-driving cars and aircraft equipment, portable lighting devices, rangefinders and security system components.

The white light source produces 500 lumens of light output. Average power in the near infrared range is 1 W, peak power is 100 W. White and infrared light can be emitted simultaneously or independently, depending on the needs of a particular application. The novelty is available in three versions, including one for surface mounting.

The manufacturer promises to show the novelty in its virtual exposition at CES 2021.

Last November, SLD Laser was acquired by Kyosera.
