Slovakia will ask for an exemption from any form of embargo on Russian oil, which could be included in the next package of European Union sanctions against Russia for its invasion of Ukraine, the Slovak Economy Ministry said on Tuesday.
“If we end up approving an embargo on Russian oil as part of a wider package of sanctions against Russia, then Slovakia will ask for an exemption,” the ministry said in response to a question from Reuters.
In a statement from Kazakhstan, where he is, Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Sziarto reaffirmed that Budapest would not support sanctions against Russian oil and gas.
According to the Hungarian Foreign Minister, deliveries of Russian oil to the country via the Druzhba pipeline account for about 65% of the crude that Hungary needs and there is no alternative source that can replace these quantities.
