Slovenian President Borut Pahor has set April 24 as the date for the next parliamentary elections, the STA news agency reported, citing the presidential decree.
In this country of the European Union, located between the Alps and the Adriatic Sea, the conservative nationalist Prime Minister Janez Jansa has been in power since 2020.
He has the support of the Slovenian Democratic Party (SDS) as well as the smaller parties in the governing coalition, some of which left the center-left coalition that ruled the country from 2018 to 2020.
Elections in Slovenia will be held in a highly polarized climate between the right and the center-left, with opinion polls again predicting an extremely ambiguous confrontation.
According to the latest polls, Jansa’s SDS could regain the lead. A decisive factor, however, in forming a coalition government is the distribution of seats.
