Slovenian PM: Russian bombing of chemical plants could cause ‘large-scale disaster’

Russian bombings of chemical plants in Ukraine could cause “large-scale disaster,” Slovenian Prime Minister Janes Jansa said today at the start of an emergency NATO summit in Brussels.

“We are concerned when we see Russian offensive forces bombing chemical plants and similar facilities,” he said. “This could trigger a large-scale disaster.”

Noting that he did not believe that the Russian army would use chemical or biological weapons, deliberately for tactical reasons, the Slovenian prime minister stressed that this would be “very reckless”.

Also ahead of the NATO summit in Brussels, Lithuanian Prime Minister Gitana Nauseda noted that his country is likely to increase its defense spending to 3% of GDP in the coming years to address the Russian threat.

“No one can feel safe now,” he said, referring to a possible Russian attack on NATO territory.

“It may be Poland, it may be the Baltic states, but no one in Europe, even those countries that are far from the direct border with Russia, even these countries are not safe today,” Nauseda said. .
