It was an excellent year for our wine: says the Slow Wine 2022, the Slow Food guide that every year explains what happens in the ever-changing world of whites, reds, rosés and Italian bubbles, but also of those who produce them and the territories in which they are born. It does so thanks to 200 collaborators who – the only case in wine guides – personally visit wineries and rows: this year 1958 farms, in which they tasted 27 thousand wines.
«The negativity that characterized 2020 is not matched by an unfortunate vintage for the wine», Comments Giancarlo Gariglio, editor of the guide together with Fabio Giavedoni.
«We had the opportunity to taste great bottles, especially in the bianchi which this year stand out from an organoleptic and qualitative point of view. In general, it is an edition full of excellent vintages, with one substantial growth in Central and Southern Italy which stands as a solid reality on the national scene “.
THE EVEN MORE SUSTAINABLE WINE: THE NUTS
All this happens as the world of wine continues to change for the better also in terms of sustainability: the abandonment of chemistry both in the fields and in the cellar in favor of environmentally friendly production methods is becoming constant. This is confirmed by the 218 Snails of this year’s Slow Wine (most of them in Piedmont) which are the most coveted recognition of the guide awarded to a cellar for the way it interprets organoleptic, territorial and environmental values in tune with the Slow Food philosophy and therefore with his own Manifesto for good, clean and fair wine: among these, 156 have already chosen completely organic or biodynamic cultivation systems. A large group destined to expand (many are awaiting official certification or are in conversion) of which they are also part 16 among the new snails entered the guide this year, that find out by browsing the gallery above.
ALL THE PRIZES OF SLOW WINE 2022
Another recognition assigned in terms of sustainability is the one dedicated to Vini Slow which, in addition to having an excellent quality, condense values linked to the territory, history and environment: in the Slow Wine 2002 I’m 345 and as always they are part of Top Wine, the absolute best of each region (this year 750), together with Daily Wines, which guarantee high quality within 12 euros (this year 196). The coin (this year 87) is instead the recognition assigned to wineries that express a good quality-price ratio in all the bottles produced. Finally there is the Bottle (188) assigned to producers who express excellent quality for all bottles presented for tasting.
THE APPOINTMENTS TO TASTE
To taste all the best the appointment is Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 October: at the Mega Watt Court (in Via Watt 15) in Milan, it will be there from 12 to 19 the largest wine tasting in Italy with over 1000 labels from wineries that have been recognized in the Slow Wine 2022 Guide. Tickets (already finished for Saturday) are available on shop.slowfood.it and you need the Green Pass to access.
The other event not to be missed is in Bologna, from 26 February to 1 March on the occasion of the Slow Wine Fair, the event organized by BolognaFiere with the artistic direction of Slow Food, with the Slow Wine Coalition, the new worldwide network of producers that respects the principles of Slow Food Manifesto for good, clean and fair wine.
