“To write” it’s a simple word and powerful. It is our tool for learning and teaching, preserving knowledge, organizing it and transmitting it. Writing is a privilege and a passion, a necessity and a duty. The way we write tells about our intimacy, because it defines our worldview. Entrusting emotions and reasoning to the power of writing, after all, is a primordial and irrepressible need to process what we feel and pass it on to others, to build a reality in which to be ourselves.
The very act of writing it has the strength to free us from the flow of events and make us take a detached perspective, which puts order in the confusion. It is a magical gesture, even: the squiggles on the paper come to life, become calligraphy, come out of aesthetic abstraction and form words, transmit a message, change into a voice that speaks to our thoughts. Writing is the essence of a research that the poet William Wordsworth (1770–1850), initiator of Romanticism British, he translated in a simple sentence: “Fill the paper with the breaths of your heart”.
With 180 years of history behind, the Paolo Pigna paper mills interpret the Italian cultural and manufacturing heritage, but above all the art of paper and beautiful writing. Drawing from its own heritage, reinterpreting it, it was born PofPigna, a new brand that feeds on timeless beauty and contemporaneity: the values of Made in Italy that have made Italian design great in the world. PdiPigna goes to the essence of style and makes it the key to tell and tell about oneself with care and dedication. Conceived by the designer Matteo Ragni (winner of two awards Compasso d’Oro) and launched last October, PdiPigna proposes new notebooks, new pencils and new pens, but increasingly sustainable and studied for the first time not only for the school world but also for a more adult public, lover of slow writing, as a new attitude to everyday life that focuses on the word and the care of thought.
To begin with, the brand includes a collection of notebooks and diaries Italian Types: conceived as objects with a personality, they are tools for storytelling and take up, in form and graphics, the symbol of careful writing, that is the typographical characters. The notebook Italic, in particular, it is the most iconic of the series: as in style italics, has an oblique shape that recalls the shape invented by the Italian typographer Aldo Manuzio during the Renaissance.
YourSign, instead, it is a collection of twelve notebooks, one for each zodiac sign, dedicated to those in the sky who are not looking for a destiny already written, but for the signals of the stars to baste and design, build and revolutionize their lives: each notebook in the series has a paper cover with embossed and perforated texture that makes up the chosen constellation, while the silver effect is inspired by the rays of moonlight.
Attached to our notebooks or placed on its support, the PofPigna also offers a writing instrument: Xilo is an ergonomic pencil and pen made of wood (walnut and mahogany), designed around the delicate balance that is created between the fingers and the enchanted valley – so graphologists call the hollow between thumb and forefinger – in the act of writing. Xilo is a new design object, but, thanks to its primordial shape, built around the hand and inspired by the paper clip, it seems to have always existed.
From the meeting between Danese (Artemide Group) and PofFurthermore, Pigna was also born the project of the first exclusive collection of items, starting from a series of notebooks with the iconic graphics of Nature series, designed by Enzo Mari for Danese starting from 1963. In the pipeline there are other capsule collections that explore the excellence of the Italian genius in the fields of design, art and beauty.
The first PofPinecone, accompanied by a Manifesto in eight points and as many brand ambassadors (among them Anna Foglietta, Saturnino Celani, Veronica Plebani and Filippo La Mantia) called to give their own interpretation of the value of paper and writing, enjoyed an almost maniacal attention sustainability: recycled paper, wood from certified forests, thread seams. More than just notebooks, notebooks and pencils, the brand offers tools and logbooks, capable of keeping our life experiences.
