Small business confidence rises for the 4th month in a row, says survey

The confidence of micro and small business owners rose in May for the fourth consecutive month, reaching the highest level since October last year, according to a survey carried out by Sebrae in partnership with Fundação Getulio Vargas (FGV).

The small business owner’s optimism about the direction of business is attributed to the greater circulation of people on the streets, which has allowed an improvement in sales, and to the extension of the more accessible credit conditions allowed by Pronampe.

In May, the confidence index in micro and small companies increased by 1.8 points, reaching 98.1 points, the highest score in seven months.

The survey shows that confidence rose again in trade after the fall in the sector in April. In the services sector, confidence advanced for the third consecutive month, now at the highest level in eight and a half years, while in the manufacturing industry the index showed stability in May.

“Even with this scenario of improvement in the mood on the part of companies, parsimony must always prevail, as we still face conjunctural problems, such as the scarcity of inputs, forecasts of high inflation and interest rates”, ponders the president of Sebrae , Carlos Melles.

He adds that, despite the improvement in perception, the study shows some fear among small businessmen about the future due to challenges such as inflation and rising interest rates, with their effects on the purchasing power of Brazilians, especially those with low incomes.
