In an interview with CNN This Wednesday (2), Marcio Milan, vice president of the Brazilian Association of Supermarkets (Abras), said that the road blocks and interdictions, caused by supporters of current President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), affect the entire food sector. , especially smaller markets and stores located in peripheral regions.
“Smaller stores, especially in the outskirts, are suffering a little more, because they depend a lot on the supply of CEAGESP in São Paulo, for example, which not only supplies the state of São Paulo, but all of Brazil”, said Milan.
“In another monitoring this morning, we analyzed the states of Mato Grosso and Mato Grosso do Sul, whose stores have not received products for two days due to barriers. As things normalize, we hope that this situation will be rectified in two more days.”
The vice president of Abras also pointed out that, although there is no greater concern about the shortage of food in the country, there are risks of products in the area of perishables, especially fruits, vegetables and meats, lacking in supermarkets.
“When situations like this happen, losses often occur, and that not only brings a financial concern, but also the issue of food waste, which spoils on the way,” he said.
