German automaker Opel is preparing to launch the new Rocks-e electric car, the first in the so-called SUM (Sustainable Urban Mobility) class, which refers to sustainable urban mobility. The new class sits between conventional passenger cars and scooters, so it is assumed that an electric car can be driven by persons aged 15 years and older who have received a driving license of the AM category (at least in Germany). Rocks-e is also suitable for those who prefer to commute to work – it is easy to park, and it can turn around on a circle with a diameter of 7.2 meters.
Rocks-e is designed for two passengers. It is 2.41 m long, 1.39 m wide, and weighs only 471 kg with the battery. The car has a power output of 6 kW (8 hp), which allows it to accelerate to 45 km / h. The power reserve is 75 km. The 5.5 kWh battery charges in 3.5 hours from any outlet, but the kit also includes a special adapter that allows you to charge at public Opel charging stations.


Rocks-e differs in its appearance from ordinary passenger cars. It has an unusual design, almost identical back and front parts, doors that open in different directions and branded elements of the brand. The cabin is also done accordingly: the seats are displaced in different directions relative to each other, so that the driver and passengers can be accommodated more freely. There is enough space above the head even for a person with a height of 190 cm. Inside there is a display that shows the speed, driving mode, battery level and range. There is even a panoramic glass roof, which is not often seen in low-price cars.





Opel offers the new electric car in three trim levels: Opel Rocks-e, Opel Rocks-e Klub and Opel Rocks-e TeKno. Sales in Germany start in November from 9,999 euros, and next year the novelty will hit other markets.
