Smart shoes will save you from dislocations during sports and hiking in the mountains

Various smart technologies in the modern world can be found literally at every turn – in smartphones, household appliances, cars and more. But the developers from the German startup Terrein decided that high technology could be applied to more everyday issues, significantly reducing the risk of harming human health while traveling, jogging or even playing sports. To do this, they created advanced Ascent sneakers that can prevent dislocations and even torn ligaments – new generation shoes do this automatically, the user just needs to walk or run.

In order to draw attention to this issue, shoe developers took advantage of the research of another German startup, Betterguards Technology – in the report of experts it is indicated that 40% of the herbs in hiking are on the ankles. A similar situation is observed in various sports – an athlete in the process of landing after a jump or run transfers a huge load to the ankle, which often leads to dislocations, sprains and more. The Ascent solves this problem thanks to its adaptive support system – in most situations, during normal walking or running, the shoes provide the same range of motion as regular shoes, but with additional support when necessary.

In the event that a person’s ankle is subjected to excessive load and the bending angle goes beyond a certain limit, a special mechanism in the form of a fettering bonjade, relatively speaking, pulls the leg in the opposite direction. These hydraulics instantly become stiffer, stabilizing a person’s ankle, thereby preventing potential injury due to excessive bending of the leg. Moreover, these shoes will allow the tourist to maintain balance in order to continue the path in a natural way – this is especially useful on rocky terrain with uneven surfaces.

The authors of the project claim that their Ascent sneakers react to excessive twisting three times faster than a human reaction, so that in the event of a traumatic situation, the shoe will save a person’s ankle even before he realizes what happened. The technology turned out to be so interesting that representatives of the technology incubator NBA Launchpad have already begun active testing of smart shoes – in theory, this will significantly reduce the number of injuries in basketball in the future.
