‘Smart’ telemetry and predictive maintenance system in DEDA gas distribution networks

A new, “smart” system of telemetry and predictive maintenance of gas distribution networks, was developed, for the first time in Greece, by DEDA in collaboration with the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA).

The system, utilizing innovative technologies, monitors remotely and in real time the condition of DEDA networks, ensuring their safe operation and uninterrupted power supply to consumers even in adverse conditions, thanks to the modern telecommunications infrastructure that supports it.

In particular, the networks are equipped with sensors whose management, as well as data collection is done through a “privately owned” network using LoRaWAN technology which is the most modern and appropriate solution without requiring telecommunications costs.

These tools monitor and control the operation of the networks by sending, in a timely and reliable manner, information to the DEDA control center in order to take the necessary actions and to plan, in the next phase, network maintenance work.

The telemetry and forecasting system of the DEDA networks was developed in the framework of the project “Smart Gas Network” with co-financing from the Operational Program “Competitiveness, Entrepreneurship, Innovation” of the NSRF. It was implemented as a pilot in DEDA networks in Central Greece and after the positive results that were recorded, it is planned to expand its application to networks in other Regions in which the company operates.

The presentation of the new system took place at a special event organized by DEDA in collaboration with the Laboratory of Organization and Production of the National Technical University of Athens (EOP-NTUA) and the Special Service for Management and Implementation of Actions in the fields of Research, Technological Development and New Development. , Ministry of Development and Investment) on Tuesday 31/5/2022.

During the event, the Coordinating Director of Operation and Maintenance of DEDA Mr. Vassilis Logothetis, the professor of NTUA and scientific manager of the project Mr. Nikolaos Panagiotou, as well as the technical director of Telesto, Mr. Dimitris Drakoulis.
