Qualcomm and Trimble announced the imminent implementation of Trimble RTX technology on the flagship Snapdragon 888 and Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processors. It significantly improves location accuracy – the press release notes that it will be possible to track a smartphone with an accuracy of up to a meter, that is, this is a fivefold improvement compared to with conventional technology.
The developers are confident that Trimble RTX will be useful primarily in mapping services and applications based on them. For example, navigators will be able to give drivers advice on how to change lanes, and taxi services will work more accurately for both drivers and passengers waiting for them.
The Trimble RTX is expected to be available very soon, in the second quarter of 2022. Most likely, to activate it, the manufacturer will have to update the firmware (but this is only the author’s assumption).
