New York City’s Democratic Mayor Eric Adams was indicted today by federal prosecutors in Manhattan on five felony charges, including solicitation of illegal campaign finance and bribery. Prosecutors accuse Adams of accepting illegal campaign contributions and paying for his stays in luxury travel accommodations from Turkish nationals who sought to influence him. Adams, 64, has been the target of investigations for months over suspicions about the financing of his victorious 2021 campaign, when he would become the second African-American mayor in New York City history. The 57-page indictment alleges, among other things, acts of wire fraud, illegally soliciting campaign contributions from a foreigner and accepting bribes from a Turkish official in exchange for his influence in a case to build a skyscraper that houses the Turkish delegation in the US and the Turkish Consulate General.
