Snapdragon 898 will be replaced by Snapdragon 8 Gen1. Qualcomm will change the naming scheme of its platforms

The annual Qualcomm Tech Summit is scheduled for November 30, at which the announcement of the flagship SoC Snapdragon 898 is expected. Now, for the first time, it is reported that Qualcomm will change the naming scheme for its platforms. Instead of the Snapdragon 898, the company will switch to the Snapdragon 8 Gen1 scheme.

The Chinese resource MyDrivers refers to a well-known tech blogger who claims that the usual three-digit designation of Snapdragon platforms is a thing of the past. Qualcomm’s new top platform will retain the “8” number, which will convey flagship status. The Snapdragon 8 series SoCs have always been the best in the lineup and have mostly been used in high-end smartphones.
