So far, 10,000 Ukrainian refugees have arrived in Italy

According to the head of the Italian Civil Protection, Fabrizio Curtio, 10,000 Ukrainian refugees have arrived in Italy so far. 50% are women and almost all the rest are children.

The vast majority of Ukrainian refugees arrive in Italy by road from Slovenia and their number has been steadily rising for the past 24 hours.

Until now, most Ukrainians who leave the war behind and decide to come to Italy are hosted by relatives who already live and work in the country’s various cities.

“The phenomenon, at this stage, is completely manageable,” said Courcio. However, the Italian municipalities are also mobilized: in Venice, the mayor Luigi Bruniaro himself decided to host two Ukrainians with their three children.

In Milan, one of the largest homeless shelters has opened its doors to Ukrainian refugees, while in Rome, a total of fifteen hotels have been allocated by the local government.
