So that’s why the new SoC is called Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Qualcomm explained it all

As you know, the new top-end mobile platform Qualcomm was named Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, and not Snapdragon 898, as many expected. The company also announced Snapdragon 8cx Gen 3 and Snapdragon 7c + Gen 3.

So that’s why the new SoC is called Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. Qualcomm explained it all

Why did the company change its naming convention? In fact, everything is quite simple. As the senior vice president and chief marketing officer explained, the company simply doesn’t have enough numbers for the new SoCs. That is, in fact, not now, but next year the principle would have to be changed.

True, Qualcomm could easily have just added one to the number and switched to the names Snapdragon 18xx, 17xx and so on, but for some reason it did not want to do this. It can also be assumed that the change in naming principles this year is associated with a completely new platform, since it now contains all the really new main components.

The company also stopped putting its name in front of the Snapdragon brand. It turns out that many people know the Snapdragon brand but don’t know the Qualcomm brand. And against this background, the Qualcomm Snapdragon bundle may be less effective from a marketing point of view, so the company will no longer put its name next to the SoC names.
