A social worker from Ohio of the US was arrested for doing sex with a 13-year-old boy she was assigned to counsel, according to police and local reports. Payton Shires, 24, allegedly admitted to her behavior during a call with the boy’s mother and Columbus Police Department detectives, according to reports.
Shires, of Mount Sterling, was previously employed by the National Youth Advocate Program (NYAP), a group that specializes in working with families involved in the foster care system, according to the Columbus Dispatch.
It remains unclear whether the boy was assigned to her through NYAP.
The boy’s mother contacted police Sept. 27 to report her suspicions after she allegedly discovered inappropriate messages between her son and Shires, court documents show.
Officers allegedly searched the phone and discovered footage showing the boy and Shires having sex.
When investigators interviewed the boy, he allegedly admitted to having sex with Shires at least twice in September.
Shires was arrested Friday after allegedly admitting her behavior with the boy to his mother in a call monitored by police.
She was charged with unlawful sexual conduct with a minor, according to WSYX, and is being held on $500,000 bail.
