The installed power of the photovoltaic solar source grew by more than 60% from January to mid-December, jumping from 14.2 gigawatts (GW) to 23 GW, according to a balance sheet released by the Brazilian Association of Photovoltaic Solar Energy (Absolar) this Tuesday. (27).
The total includes large-scale plants and self-generation systems for electricity on roofs, facades and small plots of land, equivalent to 11.2% of the country’s electricity matrix.
In the last 150 days, the pace of growth has been practically 1 GW per month, which places the source in third position in the Brazilian electricity matrix, as the segment benefits from government incentives to the source.
According to the entity, since 2012 the solar source has already brought to Brazil around BRL 116.6 billion in investments, more than BRL 36.6 billion in revenue for the public coffers and generated more than 690 thousand accumulated jobs. With this, it also avoided the emission of 31.1 million tons of CO2 in the generation of electricity.
For the CEO of Absolar, Rodrigo Sauaia, the growth of solar energy strengthens the sustainability and competitiveness of the productive sectors, which seek to decarbonize their operations with the generation of renewable energy.
Brazil has around 7.1 GW of installed power in large-scale solar plants.
In the self-generation segment, there are practically 16 GW of installed power from the solar source.
