Solidarity gestation, Maria Sole: “I hope to be the last to go to court”

It was deposited in Parliament (by the deputies Guia Termini, Doriana Sarli, Riccardo Magi, Nicola Fratoianni and Elisa Siragusa), a bill to encourage and regulate solidarity gestation for others (here the link to sign the appeal for the law). “The filing of the bill for the regulation of solidarity gestation for others is excellent news,” he comments Filomena Gallo, secretary of the Luca Coscioni association, a reality active in the protection of the right to science and health.

«The result of an extraordinary work of jurists, experts and associations, coordinated by the Luca Coscioni and Certi Rights association. A big step forward, which touches the lives of tens of thousands of people in Italy, and opens the possibility of “starting a family” even to people who for various reasons are unable to carry on a pregnancy ».

Between them, Maria Sole Gardens, Roki girl as she tells herself, calling into question the syndrome of Mayer Rokitansky Kuster Hauser with whom she was born. “It means being born without a uterus but also being technically fertile”, he had told us here Maria Sole, who is 37 today, is married and dreams of becoming a mother with her husband Sergio.

To do this, Maria Sole started a legal battle with him and the Coscioni association, the sentence of which should soon be known. At the moment, in Italy, gestation for others is not allowed under any circumstances. “Me my husband and Sara (the woman who offered to carry on the pregnancy for Maria Sole, ed) we live a little on stand by. On the one hand we would like to start furnishing a wonderful bedroom, planning visits and ultrasounds and on the other we are also prepared for a disappointment. Whatever happens we won’t give up, we are just asking to have our child born, is it really so scandalous to want to give your life in 2021? “.

The text presented in these days to regulate solidarity gestation for others, is added to the two previous and opposite ones already arrived in parliament and signed by Giorgia Meloni and Mara Carfagna.

“I hope I was the first and last to have had to resort to legal action”, continues Maria Sole. “I hope that this law will finally allow all women with my syndrome, the hundreds of women and people who have written to me over the years, telling me about their pains, their illnesses and their tragedies, to finally realize their I also dream in Italy, the country where we were born and raised ».

Regulating solidarity gestation would also mean putting an end to exploitation. As Filomena Gallo points out: “Now we expect it to be discussed and approved: to avoid illegality, abuse and any risk of exploitation, in order to truly protect women, children and all those involved, the only possible way is only a state law. Now awaiting a law, couples have two ways: to go abroad, to those countries where the technique is legal and regulated, or to go to a court in Italy to be authorized “.
