German Chancellor Olaf Soltz and Belgian Prime Minister Alexander de Croes both warned Britain on Tuesday not to unilaterally violate the Northern Ireland Protocol, citing a report that said London
“We have found a good solution for Northern Ireland and no one should unilaterally bypass the agreement we both agreed on,” Soltz told reporters during a joint news conference with the Belgian prime minister.
De Croe, for his part, said that non-compliance with the protocol would create a major problem in the European Union’s internal market.
“Our message is quite clear: Do not touch it … If this agreement is revoked, then I believe the whole system will be revoked. I would not see any other solution,” de Croix said.
Earlier, the Times reported that British Foreign Secretary Liz Trace was going to reject key parts of the Northern Ireland protocol after abandoning talks with the European Union on the Brexit agreement.
