German Chancellor Soltz called on Turkey to show restraint towards Greece, as tensions between the two countries have increased, as the representative of the German Chancellor stressed.
“The chancellor is of the opinion that, given the current situation, it is necessary for all NATO members to stand together and refrain from provoking each other,” the spokesman told a news conference in Berlin.
“The violation of Greek airspace and overflights over Greek islands is not ‘ok’, it is counterproductive and against the spirit of the alliance,” he added.
As he stated, Germany is committed to resolving the open issues between Greece and Turkey in a private dialogue, and on the basis of international law.
At the same time, “we can not accept the questioning of the sovereignty of the Member States of the European Union.”
