Following his resignation from the supervisory board of the Russian energy company Rosneft, German Chancellor Olaf Solz (SPD) is calling on former Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder to stop other activities for companies from the country.
The chancellor stressed that Schröder’s position in the Ukrainian was exclusively his. Lower Saxony Foreign Minister Stephan Weil (SPD) welcomed Schröder’s resignation, but said it was too late. There has been a war in Ukraine for three months.
Rosneft announced on Friday that Schröder would not extend his term as head of the supervisory board. Schröder is also a candidate for the supervisory board of the Russian energy company Gazprom and works as a top lobbyist for its subsidiaries Gazprom Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2. Gazprom’s annual general meeting is scheduled for June 30.
In his only interview since the start of the war in Ukraine in the “New York Times”, Schroeder had left open whether he would accept the candidacy for the position of supervisory board.
