Germany will continue to support Ukraine, militarily and financially, although it has practically exhausted the weapons it can deliver from its own stockpiles and is now cooperating with the military industry for new deliveries, Chancellor Olaf Soltz said on Tuesday. Reuters.
Among the weapons the manufacturers said they could deliver quickly were anti-tank and air defense weapons, Soltz told a news conference after attending a teleconference with Western allies.
“The aim is to strengthen the Ukrainian army so that it can repel the Russian attack,” the German chancellor said.
Asked if Germany would deliver Leopard tanks to Ukraine, he said Berlin, as well as its Western allies, had concluded that it made much more sense to deliver weapons that the Ukrainians already knew how to use. Allies coordinate deliveries, he added.
Among those attending the conference were US President Joe Biden, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trindade, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, French President Emanuel Macron, NATO Secretary-General Nato Bensen and NATO Prime Minister Boris Johnson, as well as the leaders of Poland, Japan and Italy.
