German Chancellor Olaf Solz today called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to immediately end the “catastrophic war” in Ukraine, and vowed that support for Kyiv would continue until the Kremlin withdraws its troops. Reuters.
“To withdraw [ο Πούτιν] “Russian troops from Ukraine and until then, we will do everything we can to continue to support Ukraine,” he told the Bundestag, the lower house of the German parliament.
Germany delivers weapons to Ukraine from its military depots which are “immediately available to the country and effective,” the German chancellor added.
“Our goal must be for Russia not to win the war,” he said.
He also said that Germany was in confidential talks with Kyiv over possible security guarantees that it could offer to Ukraine in order to guarantee its security after the Russian invasion.
“We are holding talks on guarantees with Ukraine. These talks are confidential,” he said.
Ukraine has proposed an alternative to NATO membership, which Russia has said it will not accept, with individual countries such as Germany, Turkey or China offering guarantees with a similar effect.
