Somalia: Thousands flee Poodle’s financial capital for battle

Thousands of Bosso residents in Pudland Somalia (northeast), evacuated the city due to hostilities that last for days, local officials informed the French Agency, confirming information from the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Somalia.

“Thousands of Bosaso residents have fled in recent days after sporadic fighting broke out in various parts of the city.”, said Abdirizak Mohammed, a local official, by phone yesterday.

“Most decided to leave their homes because the opposing parties used heavy weapons and mortars”, he added.

In addition, according to OCHA, “about 40% of the 70,000 internally displaced” Somalis who had taken refuge in Bosasso are now experiencing a “second displacement” due to the violence.

In the far north of Somalia, Pudland is one of the five semi-autonomous states of the federal state, where the armed conflict continues for decades and there is insecurity.
