Son of Hamas founder criticizes Lula for comparing Hamas and Israel

Son of one of the founders of Hamas, Mosab Hasan Houssef, said in an interview with CNN that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) makes a mistake when comparing Israel and Hamas.

“How can you make that comparison? You are the president of a nation of 200 million people, you have responsibilities and you cannot act emotionally like a sheep in the street. You are in a leadership position”, he pointed out.

Houssef is the son of Sheikh Hasan Yousen and was his father’s political heir. After serving an Israeli prison sentence, he became a spy for the Shin Bet, the Israeli secret police, for 10 years and was known as the “green prince”. Today he lives in the United States.

In early November, Lula stated that Israel’s actions are as serious as those of Hamas, which provoked complaints from the Jewish community.

“Israel’s solutions are as serious as Hamas’s, because they are killing innocent people without any criteria. Throw bombs where there are children, where there are hospitals, under the pretext that a terrorist is there. There is no explanation,” Lula said at the time.

President’s interlocutors heard by CNN point out that he did not compare Hamas and Israel, but the suffering of civilians on both sides and that his statements are being politically distorted.

They say the president’s goal is the release of Israeli hostages, an end to bombings and a ceasefire.

Wanted by CNN, Planalto did not comment on the statements made by the son of the founder of Hamas.
