Sony Europe has joined the Theta blockchain-based streaming platform validator program. Sony Europe became the seventh third-party corporate network validator.
Theta will be located at Sony Europe’s Brussels Research Center. The node will confirm transactions on the Theta blockchain, which operates on a Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus. Sony will also serve on the Theta Network Management Board and will be involved in developing the network and ensuring its security and stability.
In addition to Sony, Theta is validated by companies such as Goole and Samsung, as well as Binance, Blockchain.com and Gumi.
“Theta Network is rapidly evolving towards full decentralization. There are now 14 validators launched on the network, 7 of which are operated by Theta Labs, and the remaining 7 operate on third-party platforms, ”said Mitch Liu, CEO of Theta Labs.
Liu said Theta Labs looks forward to working more closely with Sony in various areas, such as decentralized finance or non-fungible tokens (NFT).
At the end of 2020, the Theta mainnet received support for smart contracts. Changes have also been made to the staking process.
