Sony has unveiled the FE 35mm F1.4 GM full-frame lens. This is a more compact and lighter alternative to the Sony Carl Zeiss Distagon T * FE 35mm F1.4 ZA lens, available from April 2015. The novelty weighs 524 g versus 630 g in the case of the specified Distagon model, which, incidentally, will remain on sale.
The optical design of the FE 35mm F1.4 GM has 14 elements in 10 groups, including two XA elements, one ED and Nano AR Coating II. The minimum focusing distance is 27 cm. This corresponds to a maximum magnification of 0.23x.
There are two linear motors in the lens for autofocusing. The manual focus ring has no mechanical connection with the optical elements. In fact, this is a motor control, but it behaves like a mechanical ring with a linear characteristic. Only the steering angle is taken into account, but not its speed. You can save the focus position and return to it with one button press. The aperture is adjustable in the range of f / 1.4-f / 16. The 11-blade iris control ring can be rotated smoothly or with a click.
The lens is compatible with 67mm filters. The largest diameter of the lens itself is 76 mm, length – 96 mm. Weather protection declared. The lens manufacturer’s suggested retail price is 1,700 euros. Deliveries are due to begin later this month. Includes covers, lens hood and case.
