Sony has officially shared information about its new smartphones. The devices received a number of innovative chips, which are compactly housed in a body with a familiar corporate design.
Sony Xperia 1 III – world’s first OLED with 4K and 120Hz simultaneously
The main announcement of the presentation was the third generation of the Xperia 1. Let’s start with a simple one: the processor is equipped with the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chip, which works in conjunction with 12 GB of RAM and 256 GB of user storage. This power is fed by a 4,500 mAh battery, which can be recharged using fast charging. By the way, Sony left it in the kit contrary to the trends. This is a 30-watt unit that replenishes up to 50% of its charge in half an hour.
In front and back, the design of the smartphone has remained practically unchanged compared to last year’s flagship of the company: strict forms, a metal frame and no bangs. However, the eye has something to cling to, because the 6.5-inch OLED display on the front panel was the first in the world to combine 4K resolution and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The absorption of content is also facilitated by the audio capabilities of the smartphone. The Xperia 1 III boasts advanced 360 Spatial Sound stereo speakers and a 3.5mm jack for the discerning audiophile.
The main attention of the audience of the presentation was focused on the photo capabilities of the smartphone. The back of the Xperia 1 III houses three 12MP cameras with four focal lengths. Such a paradox was made possible by a zoom lens with a sophisticated Zeiss lens system. Portrait mode can boast of a similar omnivore, which also works here on all three modules: ultra-wide-angle, main and telephoto.
Finishing off the camera theme, it’s worth noting that the Sony Xperia 1 III can also shoot 4K video at 120 frames per second, and also has a separate button to launch the camera with a grooved surface.
Xperia 5 III – all the same, but even more compact
The second smartphone in the lineup is the more compact Xperia 5 III. Despite the size (only 68 mm wide), the iron migrated here from the older model practically unchanged. This is the same flagship Qualcomm Spandragon 888 chipset, the same 4,500 mAh and an identical camera system with a zoom lens, but without a 3D depth sensor. Perhaps the only noticeable difference from the older version, in addition to the smaller 6.1-inch Full HD screen, was the reduced amount of RAM to 8 GB.
As for the chips, everything is in place: the fast focusing from the Alpha cameras, the surround sound from the stereo speakers, and the 3.5mm Mini Jack for connecting headphones are still here. What pleases, despite the reduction of the case, the battery here remains the same as in the older model.
