BCN Ranking, a company that calculates sales of photographic equipment in the Japanese market, has published statistics, including data for 12 months from September 2020 to September 2021, related to the segment of mirrorless cameras with interchangeable lenses. Overall, September sales were 82.9% year-on-year, but the report says the market is recovering. This is facilitated by a decrease in the incidence of COVID-19 and measures aimed at supporting the tourism industry.

The graph clearly shows that Sony, which lost the lead to Canon in July, was able to dramatically increase sales over the last month included in the report and significantly outpaced its competitors. This has been aided by the success of the Alpha ZV-E10, a vlogger-focused camera. At the end of September, Sony’s share is 41.8%, which is a record high for this year.
The aforementioned ZV-E10 camera is the best-selling camera in the Japanese market. It accounts for 19.8% of all mirrorless camera sales. The second place with 10.3% is also taken by the Sony camera – model a6400. This is followed by the Canon EOS M and EOS M2 cameras (9.4% and 8.4%, respectively). Fujifilm X-A5 is in fifth place (5.9% of sales), in sixth – Olympus Pen E-PL10 (5.0%). Next comes the Sony camera again, with the a7C accounting for 3.2% of sales. The top ten also includes Canon EOS RP (2.4%), a6000 (2.3%) and Panasonic Lumix GF10 (2.1%).
