Yesterday, February 15, the Japanese company Sony officially introduced its latest fully wireless headphones called LinkBuds, which instantly attract attention with a very unusual case design. The fact is that this model is completely devoid of the usual silicone tips that are used on most earplugs. Instead, for fixation in the ear, the manufacturer decided to use an open ring located on each of the headphones, as well as special silicone arcs, presented in four different sizes. Japanese designers apparently decided that such a design is more convenient in everyday life.
It should be noted right away that the user will not receive active noise reduction – Sony engineers added such a strange ring not only for the convenience of landing in the auricle, but also so that a person can receive more sounds from the environment. On the other hand, the use of such an unusual case made it possible to install impressive 12 mm ring-shaped drivers that work together with the proprietary v1 chip – it is also installed in the popular Sony 1000XM4 model. Also, Sony, which is quite expected, took care of the high sound quality – the headphones support DSEE sound enhancement technology and modern codecs.

In addition, the unique features of the device do not end with a strange design. The developers of the Japanese brand decided that everyone was tired of the touch controls on the headphone case, so LinkBuds can use the skin in front of the ear as a touch panel – the technology is called Wide Area Tap. Thanks to it, the user can switch tracks, increase or decrease the volume, and not only, but there is no information as to how convenient and accurate this technology will be. At the same time, in terms of autonomy, the novelty cannot boast of anything special – Sony LinkBuds provide five and a half hours of music playback, which is quite worthy, but not a record.

Moreover, the branded case in which the headphones are supplied extends the battery life of the device by only 12 hours – usually the case gives much more than two additional charges. And there is no support for wireless charging either.
Already, Sony LinkBuds are available for purchase in dark gray and white colors at a price of $ 180 – the cost for the Russian market has not yet been reported.
