So the PS5 with an optical drive is now making enough money to offset the production cost. At the same time, the less expensive version of the PS5 Digital Edition for $ 399 has not yet overcome this milestone, and Sony compensates for the losses from the console through sales of accessories and PS4.

As reported in a fresh financial report, over the past quarter, the PS5 sold 2.3 million units, and the PlayStation 4 managed to sell in the amount of 500 thousand. As a result, total PS4 sales reached an impressive 116.4 million.

It took Sony years to stop losing money on PS3 sales, but the PS4 stopped making a loss about six months after the console debuted in 2013. The PS5 took a little longer than the PS4, but it clearly doesn’t follow the same fate as the PS3, despite the pandemic, shortages, and expensive parts.
