Sony has announced that the online PlayStation Store will stop selling and renting movies and TV series by the fall.
Movies and TV shows will be removed from PlayStation Store on August 31, 2021. Vanessa Lee, head of video at Sony Interactive Entertainment, said:
We are seeing tremendous growth in the number of PlayStation fans using subscription-based and ad-supported entertainment streaming services on our consoles. Due to this change in user behavior, we have decided to no longer offer the purchase and rent of movies and TV series on the PlayStation Store from August 31, 2021. ”
When this change takes effect, users will still have access to movies and TV programs purchased from the PlayStation Store for on-demand playback on PS4, PS5 and mobile devices.
