Sony quietly refreshes the a7R III and a7R IV’s hardware

Without drawing attention to this with a press release, Sony has released updated versions of the a7R III and a7R IV cameras. In catalogs, updated cameras can be distinguished from the original models by the letter “A” in the designation.

Both the a7R III (ILCE-7RM3A) and the a7R IV (ILCE-7RM4A) have improved LCD displays. Their resolution is 2.36 million dots, while the display resolution of the original models was 1.44 million dots. Since everything has to be paid for, replacing the display led to a slight decrease in autonomy. Based on the specs, you can now take 10 fewer shots on a single charge. Also, judging by the photos on Sony’s website, the a7R IV (ILCE-7RM4A) no longer has the Sony logo under the LCD monitor.

Whether the updated cameras differ from their predecessors in prices is not yet clear.
