The World Photography Organization has announced the finalists and photographers selected in the Professional competition for i Sony World Photography Awards 2022. The overall winners of the competition for the categories Students, Young, Open and Professional will be announced on 12 April 2022 and their works will be exhibited as part of an exhibition at Somerset House, London, from 13 April to 2 May 2022.
The Awards reward projects that stand out for their technical competence and original approach to contemporary subjects. “The finalists and people selected for the 2022 Sony World Photography Awards are more diverse, inspiring and, I believe, powerful than ever,” commented the jury chair. Mike Trow. «The standard of work in the competition for professionals surprised me with its depth and variety. There have been times when we all thought that the ongoing Covid crisis would bring the world to a halt; however, upon examining these projects it became clear that this was not the case at all“.
Numerous Italian projects. Between these, Exotic Appetite – Inside the Italian Exotic Animal Trade of the photojournalist and winner of the Photographer of the Year 2019 Award, Federico Borella which examines the lesser known trade in exotic live animals in Italy, where they are exhibited and sold for high profits. Concordia Of Alessandro Gandolfi centered on a series of personal objects found inside the wreck of the Costa Concordia. It’s still Life on Earth Of Lorenzo Poliwhich delves into the ethereal magic of nature and the mysterious beauty of the wild world, depicted through a diverse series of landscapes
