Sophie Turner sues Joe Jonas over her children’s return to England

Sophie Turner and Joe Jonas’ divorce is getting messy.

The “Game of Thrones” star filed a petition in New York City on Thursday (21) requesting that Jonas return his children to their home in England, according to court documents obtained by CNN .

The petition cites the “wrongful retention” of their children “in New York City from their habitual residence in England” and that they have made England their “permanent” home in April 2023.

Jonas was caring for his two daughters while on tour with his band The Jonas Brothers, an arrangement made while Turner was producing a new series, according to his petition.

Turner planned to return to England this month with the children, according to the document, but when she tried to get Jonas’ passports last week, she claims he refused.

“Joe and Sophie had a cordial meeting last Sunday in New York when Sophie came to New York to be with the children. They have been with her since that meeting,” Jonas’ rep told CNN in a statement this Thursday.

“Joe’s impression of the meeting was that they had come to the understanding that they would work together toward an amicable co-parenting setup.”

The statement continued: “His wish is that Sophie reconsiders her tough legal stance and moves forward in a more constructive and private manner. Her only concern is the well-being of her children.”

Jonas filed for divorce from Turner on September 5 after four years of marriage. Turner also claims in his petition that he found out Jonas filed for divorce through “the media.”

Jonas’ rep disputed that claim, stating that Turner was aware he was going to file for divorce.

In her petition, Turner describes the now-estranged couple’s efforts last year to find their “forever home” in England and that, before the marriage ended, they mutually agreed to settle in the United Kingdom.

Their children “are fully involved and integrated into all aspects of daily and cultural life” in England, according to the petition, which also states that they anticipated closing on a new home in December, for which they were in contractual purchase negotiations.

“Joe seeks shared parenting with his children, so that they can be raised by both their mother and father, and of course, he is also okay with the children being raised in the US and the UK,” his rep added. “The children were born in the US and spent most of their lives in the US. They are American citizens.”
