Sophocles Giannakou is the new head of AB Vassilopoulos

With a move from within, AB Vassilopoulos comes to cover the departure of its former leader, Vassilis Stavrou. The chain elected Sophocles Giannakos as chairman and managing director in the context of a relevant decision of the general assembly, which was published in GEMI.

S. Giannakou is a person who maintains extensive experience from his positions abroad and chief financial officer of AB Vassilopoulos with the duties of Senior Vice President Finance – CFO, being one of the key executives of the executive committee of the company.

He was born in Athens, while he has also lived in Frankfurt, Germany for 4 years. He has studied Financial and Banking Administration at the University of Piraeus. He holds a Master’s degree in Accounting and Tax Law from the University of Athens and is a Chartered Accountant and a member of the Association of Certified Chartered Accountants (ACCA) of the United Kingdom.

Sophocles Giannakou has worked for the General Bank of Greece (Dealing Room) during his studies. He then worked at KPMG (1996-2006) as a director of consulting and more specifically in the Department of Strategy and Financial Management. This was followed by his collaboration with British American Tobacco Hellas SA (2006-2009) as Financial Accounting and Tax Manager and Marketing Finance Manager.

Sophocles Giannakou was hired in 2009 at AB Vassilopoulos as Group Finance Director. From 2012 to 2016 he served as CFO for Southeast Europe, taking responsibility in addition to Greece, Albania, Serbia and Romania. Today he holds the position of Senior Vice President & Chief Financial Officer Southeastern Europe & AB Vassilopoulos. He speaks 4 languages ​​(Greek, English, German and French). He likes swimming and tennis. He is married with 2 children.

Dimitris Artikopoulos, Director of Human Resources and Organizational Development of AB Vassilopoulos, also participates in the new board of directors.

He has been collaborating with AB Vassilopoulos since 1998 in the Research & Development Department as a real estate researcher. In 1999 he took over the duties of the Employment Department of the Human Resources Department, while in 2000 he was promoted to HR Development Manager. Since December 2011 he has taken over the duties of VP Human Resources / Organizational Developoment, Greece. He holds a degree in Economics from the University of Athens and an MSc in Marketing and Communication from the Department of Marketing and Business Research of the Athens University of Economics and Business (ASOEE).

He has been a member of the teaching staff (SEP) of the Hellenic Open University in the Department of Business and Organizational Management and Special Advisor to the Management of a large public organization in matters of Human Resources and Labor Relations. Maintains many years of work experience in market research and policy communication. He is a certified coach and a founding member of the Hellenic Coaching Association.
