Sotheby’s Cancels CryptoPunks NFT Collection Auction

Auction house Sotheby’s has canceled the sale of the CryptoPunks NFT collection called Punk It. The reason was the refusal of the owner of the tokens to sell his collection.

The owner of NFT under the nickname 0x650d decided not to sell tokens, the value of which, according to preliminary estimates, ranges from $20 to $30 million. Representatives of Sotheby’s reported cancellation CryptoPunks NFT auction, which was due to start on February 24th, and thanked everyone who supported the auction.

Later, 0x650d posted a picture on Twitter mocking the situation, but users did not appreciate the humor and criticized the NFT owner. Many accused him of making everyone involved in the auction look stupid. Also, some users stated that such a large-scale sale of tokens at one of the prestigious auctions would greatly promote the NFT industry.

When speculating about why 0x650d decided to cancel the auction, some users speculated that the NFT collection was now worth much less than it was in early February. Recall that earlier this month, a rare CryptoPunk token was sold for a record $24 million.

The fact that Sotheby’s will hold the first “live” auction for the sale of 104 CryptoPunk collectible tokens became known in early February.
