NASA’s Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) has shared some interesting new content sourced directly from the Red Planet.

NASA has released a video and audio recording showing the fourth flight of the Ingenuity helicopter on Mars, which took place on April 30, 2021.
Video and sound were recorded by the Mars rover Perseverance. As noted by the press service of NASA, this is the first time that one spacecraft has recorded the sounds of another spacecraft on another planet.
David Mimoun, professor of planetary science at the Higher Aviation Institute (ISAE-SUPAERO) in Toulouse, who is also the scientific project leader in charge of the SuperCam microphone on the rover, said:
This is a very good surprise. We ran tests and simulations that showed that the microphone barely picks up helicopter sounds, as the atmosphere of Mars strongly dampens sound propagation. It’s a real stroke of luck to register the sound of a helicopter at such a distance. This record will be a gold mine for our understanding of the Martian atmosphere. “
The scientists made mono audio easier to listen to, highlighting the 84 Hz sound of a helicopter blade, lowering the sound below 80 and above 90 hertz, and increasing the volume of the remaining signal. Some frequencies have been cut to amplify the drone of the helicopter, which becomes loudest when the helicopter passes through the camera’s field of view.
Recall that the helicopter was delivered to Mars attached to the bottom of the Perseverance rover, which landed in the Jezero crater on February 18, 2021. Ingenuity’s main objectives are to demonstrate technology and conduct the first flights to Mars. After the first successful flights of Ingenuity, NASA decided to expand its mission and test a helicopter for reconnaissance and escort of the rover.
