South Korea: 334,708 new coronavirus cases, 327 deaths due to COVID-19 in 24 hours

The Korea Office of Disease Control and Prevention (KCDA) announced today that 244,708 cases of SARS-CoV-2 were confirmed in the 24 hours to midnight Saturday and 327 patients died due to complications of COVID-19.

The death toll from a new coronavirus pandemic in South Korea has reached 12,428 deaths out of a total of 9,373,646 infections, according to the KCDA. The mortality rate remained unchanged at 0.13%.

The number of cases fell compared to the previous one, when 381,454 were confirmed, while it remained below the level of 400,000 for the second consecutive day.

Authorities expect the current pandemic wave, attributed to the Omicron variant, to peak in March.

The number of patients in hospitals in a serious to critical condition, a key indicator, decreased to 1,033 (-16 in 24 hours).

By this stage 86.6% of the population of 52 million have been fully vaccinated and 63.1% have received a booster dose.
