Today, the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy of the Republic of Korea said that US sanctions do not apply to cars, smartphones and other household appliances made in South Korea.
The South Korean authorities held consultations with the US Department of Commerce regarding Washington’s sanctions against Russia. After negotiations, it was announced that the US authorities would consider smartphones, cars, washing machines and other household appliances as an exception to the sanctions, since they are intended for the mass consumer. The United States puts the only condition: these goods should not be at the disposal of the armed forces.

In addition, South Korean firms will be able to obtain special permission from the US government for certain deliveries of products to their manufacturing plants in Russia.
Last week, the US imposed sanctions on the Russian technology sector. Now, in order to export products with American technologies to Russia, South Korean firms need to obtain a special license from the US authorities.
