On Monday, April 5, South Korean company LG Electronics announced that it would cease production of smartphones. Finally, LG’s mobile business will be closed by July 31st. But this does not mean at all that from August 1, all owners of the Korean brand’s smartphones will be left behind. LG has pledged to release regular software updates and is even ready to update some of its devices to Android 12.
In its official press release, LG announced that it will provide service support and release software updates and security patches for customers of previously launched mobile devices for a specific period of time, depending on the region. And the company posted an upgrade plan on its website. So, LG will continue to distribute Android 11 for certain models of smartphones, and some devices will even get a chance to upgrade to Android 12. But there is one “but” here. The release of Android 12 for LG smartphones will directly depend on the distribution schedule of the Google update and the compatibility of the new platform with Korean-made devices. That is, in fact, LG is not going to seriously work on updating the proprietary interface and will release Android 12 without any important changes and additions. The company also noted that if in the process of testing the update, LG has any serious problems, then the company may completely abandon plans to release a new OS. Most likely, only the brand’s flagship smartphones such as LG Velvet, V6 ThinQ and Wing can count on the update to Android 12.
Meanwhile, information appeared on the Web that LG is going to finally release a flagship smartphone. Allegedly, in May or June, the flagship LG V70 will see the light, work on which began long before the strong-willed decision to close the mobile business was made. The smartphone lit up in the render, demonstrating its design in all its glory. In front, it will have a large display with a front camera embedded in the left corner, and on the back there will be a main camera of four modules lined up vertically and complemented by a dual-tone LED flash. Insiders credit the LG V70 with a top-end Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 octa-core chipset, a 6.5-inch AMOLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 5,300mAh battery with 45W fast wired charging.
