Seoul citizens are rushing to be with their families after martial law was declared in South Korea, Mike Valerio of CNN .
“When you’re just walking down the streets, there are people running to their family’s homes to be with them, to figure out what to do, to be close to their loved ones in this unprecedented time in many of our memories,” he told Becky Anderson from CNN from Seoul.
People are being told by police that they can be arrested without the need for warrants, Valerio reported.
This is the first time martial law has been declared in the country since it was ruled by a military dictatorship in the 1980s.
“There are whole crowds of people in [Seul] who are stunned and are trying to figure out how an unpopular president made this move, what will happen next and what it means for a democracy here in South Korea,” he said.
