South region faces storm warning and heavy rain as cold front advances

A new cold front advancing over the southern region of Brazil is causing a warning of storms and heavy rain, with Rio Grande do Sul likely to be the most affected.

Climatempo predicts a scenario of climate instability starting this Wednesday (3), with rain at any time in several parts of the state, including Porto Alegre. The situation is expected to worsen until next Sunday (7), with weather conditions considered dangerous.

In the state of Rio Grande do Sul, the forecast is for rain at any time, with a greater focus on warning for storms in the southern half.

Low pressure areas will contribute to the development of areas of instability, intensifying conditions for rain and storms. This instability is expected to persist until Friday (5), with the most intense rains approaching the center-south of Santa Catarina.

Meanwhile, Paraná and the northeast of Santa Catarina should have firm weather, with Curitiba presenting a forecast of climate stability.

For Sunday (7), in Rio Grande do Sul, the forecast is for severe weather, with strong storms, including lightning and possible occurrences of strong gusts of wind and hail. There is also a forecast for large amounts of rain throughout the day, which could lead to river overflows, flash floods and floods.

Forecast for other regions of Brazil

Southeast

In the Southeast, the forecast is for firm weather in Rio de Janeiro, in parts of Minas Gerais and São Paulo. However, temporary rains are expected in the Triângulo Mineiro, Greater BH, and central-southern Espírito Santo, including Vitória. In the northeast of Minas Gerais, the cold front in the high seas brings lots of clouds and rain at any time.

Midwest

In the Central-West region, firm weather is expected in the southeast of Mato Grosso do Sul, with temporary rains and a predominance of sunshine in other parts of the state. There are forecasts of rain showers and possible storms in Mato Grosso, Goiás, and the Federal District.

North East

The unstable weather extends across the Northeast, with forecasts of lots of clouds and rain at any time in the south of Bahia and Salvador. Rain showers are expected in several parts of the region, with storm warnings in specific areas, impacted by the Intertropical Convergence Zone.

North

Climate instability also affects the North region, with eastern Amapá and northern Pará experiencing rain and possible storms due to the Intertropical Convergence Zone. The muggy weather favors moderate to heavy rain showers in other areas of the region, especially from the afternoon onwards.
