The reservoirs of hydroelectric plants in the Southeast and Midwest should end the month of March with 66.1% of capacity, estimated the National Electric System Operator (ONS) this Friday (25).
That would represent an increase of almost 10 percentage points in storage recorded this Friday, from 57.1%, in the region where the largest hydroelectric lakes in the country are located.
Levels in hydroelectric lakes in the country’s main submarket have been rising with heavy rains.
With the recovery trend, last Thursday the Brazilian government decided to reduce the ceiling for the activation of more expensive thermal plants.
The ONS also projected that the region’s hydroelectric plants will receive rainfall equivalent to 79% of the historical average in March.
In the South, where the situation remains more adverse, rainfall should reach 37% of the historical average for the month.
For the Northeast and North, the expectation is that rainfall exceeds the average (124% and 114%, respectively).
The agency also estimated a 0.5% increase in electricity load in Brazil in March.
