Southeast region should have heavy rains this Sunday, warn Inmet and Civil Defense

The National Civil Defense issued a warning of the danger of heavy rains for the Southeast region this Sunday.

According to the agency, the National Institute of Meteorology (Inmet) indicates the possibility of strong winds, between 60 and 100 km/h, with the risk of power cuts, falling tree branches, flooding and electrical discharges. Storms can be accompanied by occurrences of inundation, floods and flash floods and landslides in hillside areas.

The volume of rain predicted by Inmet is above 100 millimeters per day. The National Civil Defense and Protection System (Sinpdec) monitors the evolution of warnings in real time. The regions that may be affected have already been notified by the agency.

In the state of São Paulo, the areas of attention include the Macrometropolitan Region, the Vale do Paraíba and the locations around Presidente Prudente, Campinas, São José do Rio Preto, Ribeirão Preto, Araçatuba, Marília, Assis and Bauru.

In the state of Rio de Janeiro, residents of the Metropolitan Region should be aware, as well as those who live in the northwest, center, south and north of Rio de Janeiro. In Espírito Santo, the areas of attention are the central, south and northwest.

“It is important for the population to be aware and follow the dissemination of other information on social networks and through the alerts sent by SMS. It is also important to seek guidance from the municipal and state civil defenses, which need to have a plan for the occurrence of heavy rains. The ideal is to map the locations with the greatest risk and, if necessary, carry out preventive evacuation”, said the director of the National Center for Risk and Disaster Management (Cenad), Armin Braun.

According to Inmet, the South Atlantic Convergence Zone (ZCAS) phenomenon will take place – when a strip of clouds is practically stationary, causing a large amount of continuous rain in the same area, for at least four days. This time, the SACZ will be over the state of Minas Gerais and will also be reflected in parts of Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Espírito Santo, Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul and Paraná.

In the south of Brazil, a cold front acts on the region and will leave the clouds heavy in all the states. In the northwest region of Rio Grande do Sul, west of Santa Catarina and in the south of Paraná, it should rain most of the day. The region can also experience hail and gusts of winds that can reach up to 80 km per hour.

In the Midwest region, the forecast is for periods with sun and rain showers in practically all areas, which can vary from moderate to heavy. Areas of instability that are gaining strength over the south of Brazil and also in Paraguay should cause rains in the south of Mato Grosso do Sul, which increases the risk of storms.

In the North of the country, the weather will be unstable and will present periods with sun and showers with lightning, mainly in the afternoon and at night, in all states. These rain showers can be of strong intensity on the coast of Amapá and also on the coast and central-west of Pará. The tendency is for this rain to occur more frequently. It can rain heavily, except in Roraima.

Almost all areas of the Northeast region can have rain showers this weekend, but they will vary in intensity depending on the region.
