S&P 500 backs down as China says it will hold military exercises in the South China Sea

The China Maritime Security Administration issued a notice on Tuesday, announcing that it will hold military exercises in the South China Sea this week.

Key details of the notice:

Entry to part of the waters of the Gulf of Tonkin is prohibited, west of the Leizhou Peninsula in southwest China, from January 27 to January 30“.

“No details are given on when the drills would be held or at what scale.”

This it could probably be due to the entry of a group of American aircraft carriers, with USS Theodore Roosevelt, into disputed waters on Saturday to promote “freedom of the seas” in the era of President Joe Biden.
