S&P 500 Index opens higher, backed by tech stocks

  • The major Wall Street indices are trading in positive territory.

The main stock indices They opened higher on Wednesday as risk flows appear to be regaining control of market action. Reflecting the upbeat mood, the CBOE Volatility Index (VIX), Wall Street’s fear gauge, was down nearly 4% on the day.

As of this writing, the S&P 500 was up 0.4% to 3,558, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was flat at 29,400, and the Nasdaq Composite was up 1.55% to 11,805.

Among the top 11 sectors in the S&P 500, the risk-sensitive technology index is up 1.8% as the best performing of the day. On the other hand, the indices of Materials, Industrial Finance lost more than 1%.

US bond markets are closed due to the Veterans Day holiday on Wednesday and equity markets are likely to be quiet for the remainder of the day.
