S&P 500 Index opens lower for second day in a row, approaching 4,500

At time of writing, the S&P 500 Index was down 0.2% on the day to 4,510, the Dow Jones Industrial was down 0.15% to 35,100 and the Nasdaq Composite was down 0.4% to 15,313.

Among the top 11 sectors in the S&P 500, the Energy Index is rising 1% on the back of rising crude prices. Currently, a barrel of West Texas Intermediate is up 1.5% to $ 69.40, as oil production in the Gulf of Mexico remains low due to Hurricane Ida.

On the other hand, the risk-sensitive tech index is shedding 0.4% as the biggest drop after the opening bell.

Later in the session, JOLTS job vacancy data for September will be analyzed for fresh momentum. Additionally, the 10-year US Treasury bond auction will take place at 17:00 GMT.
