At time of writing, the Dow Jones Industrial Average was up 0.13% on the day to 29,824, the S&P 500 was flat at 3,609 and the Nasdaq Composite was losing 0.15% to 11,960.
Hours earlier, Pfizer announced that the vaccine it developed with BioNTech was 95% effective in the final efficacy analysis of the phase three trial. However, the CBOE Volatility Index (VIX), Wall Street’s fear gauge, was down just 1.5% on the day, suggesting that the impact of this announcement on risk perception was limited.
